November’s meme

From Saturday, November 14th.

1. What book are you reading right now? I’m still reading Mrs. Woolf and the Servants: An Intimate History of Domestic Life in Bloomsbury. I’ve never before read a book where the author and editor don’t believe in comma usage. Makes for a difficult read.

2. When was the last time you laughed at work? Needling my supervisor about his constant state of worry.

3. When was the last time you danced at work? At RCA Victor, when we were in the recording studio for “A Class Act”, and the show’s book writer was dancing in the control room while the song “Better” was being recorded, and pulled me off the couch to dance with her.

4. When was the last time you sang at work?
Oh cripes, the library holiday party where everyone sat around warbling Christmas songs. I joined in for one song and left. If there’s one thing librarians don’t how to do, it’s throw a fun party (Mary of course being the exception). The library holiday office parties make me yearn for the Cleary holiday office bashes at Windows on the World. Or the BMG/RCA Victor holiday office parties at whatever trendy NYC restaurant was popular. Now I’m warbling sad Christmas tunes in a periodicals reading room, eating from supermarket sandwich platters with French-Canadian Manchester natives and their beauty parlor hair.

5. When was the last time you laughed? Reading my answer to number four.

6. When was the last time you danced? Last night in the passenger seat of Shawn’s car while Crocodile Rock played on an oldies station.

7. When was the last time you sang? Last night in the passenger seat of Shawn’s car while Crocodile Rock played on an oldies station.

8. When was the last party you attended? Last night’s opening night party for Shawn’s latest play, at the director’s house in Portsmouth, NH.

9. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A garbage collector. It wasn’t an office job. I remember telling my elementary school lunchroom friends that I was going to apply to the NYC sanitation department. This one frequently shows up in these questionnaires and I always give the same answer.

10. What do you want to be now? Independent shop owner.

11. Do you make money off a blog? Hell no.

12. Private, public, or parochial school as a kid? Parochial for twelve years.

13. Have you caught the flu this season? No, but I did catch a cold that didn’t stay around long, thanks to my uber-vitamin regimen.

14. Will you be eating turkey for Thanksgiving, or going as a vegetarian?
I’ll be going as someone who eats turkey, but who mostly saves room for dessert.

15. Who are your heroes/heroines?
That’s a hefty word that I don’t take lightly. I’m not for the war, but what our troops are having to go through is heroic.

16. What is your all-time favorite book?
Impossible to decide between The Alienist, The Time Traveler’s Wife (always thanks to Laura), and To Kill a Mockingbird.

17. What is the last movie you saw in a theater? Amelia.

18. What is the last movie you watched on television? The Squid and the Whale.

19. How many dogs are you a parent to?
N/A

20. How many cats are you a parent to? One ridiculously needy boy whom we love to pieces.

21. What is your favorite snack food? Kit-Kats.

22. What is your favorite healthy food? Apples and bananas. I eat one of each every day.

23. When is the last time you imbibed on the sauce?
I’m assuming “sauce” to mean alcohol/licka. Last night I had a glass of wine at a party. If “sauce” doesn’t mean alcohol/licka, then I don’t recall ever drinking sauce.

24. What’s your comfort food?
Marshmallow foof.

25. How much coffee do you drink each day? No caffeine for me, thanks.

26. How much soda do you drink each day? No poison for me, thanks. I only have one body to get me through this incarnation and need to keep it as chemical-free as possible.

27. How much water do you drink each day? At least two liters daily, thanks to the Nalgene bottle that I pack in my lunch box.

28. How much exercise do you get each day? Thanks to my knees, not enough. I do have a lengthy walk from the staff parking lot to my building, twice each day, sometimes four if I’m running errands during lunch. And I’m frequently up and down the stairs at work to get to the lower-level restroom. Depending on how my knees are feeling, and the weather, I’ll grab an evening constitutional in the ‘hood.

29. What do you do for a living? Same as last month’s questionnaire, work endlessly on an academic library website, where I’m in the middle of a mammoth content migration process to the new CMS and website design that will hopefully be unveiled on schedule in late-January.

30. Is it fun? Sure, I listen to internet radio in my office all day, with hundreds of stations to choose from.

31. On weekdays, what time do you get up in the morning? 6:20 am-ish.

32. On weekdays, what time do you go to sleep at night?
10:30 pm-ish.

33. What time do you need to be at work? 8:00 am.

34. How long is your commute? By “long” do you mean miles, or time? I’ll give you both. It’s five miles by car, and 25 minutes in time because I use back roads.

35. On weekends, what time do you get up in the morning? Are you stalking me? Anywhere from 7:30 to 9:30 am, depending on what’s going on.

36. On weekends, what time do you go to sleep at night? Will you be looking through my windows to confirm? Anywhere from 11:00 pm to 1:00 am.

37. What’s your favorite television show?
It rotates between Top Gear, New Scandinavian Cooking, and Reno 911. And anything on BBC America that James May has anything to do with.

38. What song is in your head right now? “Hey You” by Pink Floyd, thanks to The Squid and the Whale.

39. Have you started your Christmas shopping? On November 14, absolutely not yet. Don’t rush the season. Ask me again in a month.

40. What are your plans for this evening? At home writing, on a quiet, very rainy night, with BooBear as company, while Shawn is performing in Portsmouth.
